Graduate Research Assistants
PhD Students
Mehdi Ataei
Email: ataei@mie.utoronto.ca
Mehdi holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, where he focused on design and fabrication of solar thermal collectors. He graduated with a Master’s degree from York University, where he conducted experimental and numerical studies to understand the behaviour of liquid bridges between non-parallel surfaces. His current research interests are the simulation of Multiphase Flows and the modeling of foaming phenomena using the Lattice-Boltzmann method. He is also developing data-driven, machine learning algorithms to capture multiphase fluid-fluid interfaces more accurate and much faster than the conventional methods in multiphase flow modeling.
Shenglong You
Email: shenglong.you@mail.utoronto.ca
Shenglong received his bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Beihang University in 2009 and began to work in the industry developing aircraft fuel systems. He enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies in 2012 and obtained his MEng in 2013. In 2014, he enrolled in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto to pursue a PhD. His research interests include Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling of supersonic jet, Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of structure deformation. His work is closely linked to a device named sootblower used in the pulp and paper industry.
MASc Students
Daniel (Yung Chi) Cho
Email: yung.cho@mail.utoronto.ca
Daniel (Yung Chi) Cho graduated from the University of Waterloo with BASc in Chemical Engineering in 2015. After working at Enbridge Gas Distribution, he pursues his master’s degree at the University of Toronto with Professor Tran and Professor Bussmann. Daniel uses CFD to improve mixing effectiveness in the dissolving tank in pulp and paper mill to reduce scale formation in pipelines downstream
Alexa Grittani
Email: alexa.grittani@mail.utoronto.ca
Alexa received her BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2018. She began her MASc at the University of Toronto in September 2018. Her research involves using CFD to model the centrifugal evaporator pump in the Kraft recovery process and using this to determine the calcium carbonate scaling mechanism.
Patrick Gareau
Email: patrick.gareau@mail.utoronto.ca
Patrick received his BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 2018. He began his MASc at the University of Toronto in January 2018. His research topic is on using CFD to model ringing in rotary lime kilns to better understand how these deposits affect flow and heat transfer and how they are forming.
Erfan Pirmorad
Email: pirmorad@mie.utoronto.ca
Erfan holds a Bachelor’s degree (2019) in Mechanical Engineering from University of Tehran, where he conducted research on data-driven and physics based reduced-order model development, by using LSTM Neural Network, that can be used to understand, perdict and control turbulent flows. He also has experience on Lattice Boltzmann simulation of iterfacial flows, and High Performance Computing (HPC) techniques. He is currently developing a machine learning based, data-driven, multiphase flow solver which utilizes Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) to model the 3D interactions between floating solids at the fluid-fluid moving interfaces.
